Was uns die Archäogenetik über Lebersteatose bei alten und modernen Menschen sagt.

Ein gemeinsames Forschungsprojekt der Universitätskliniken Würzburg (UKW) und Homburg (UKS) und des Max-Planck-Instituts für evolutionäre Anthropologie (MPI-EVA) in Leipzig ermöglicht wichtige neue Einblicke in die evolutionären Grundlagen menschlicher Stoffwechselerkrankungen. Die relevanteste Genvariante, die für Fettlebererkrankungen verantwortlich ist, stammt aus der Zeit vor der Abspaltung vom Neandertaler. In alten Genomen dieser archaischen Menschen lag die Häufigkeit der Variante des PNPLA3-Gens bei 100 Prozent, möglicherweise aufgrund von Vorteilen bei der Kälteanpassung.
